Phoenix Rose Original Artist Statement
Below you can read what I originally wrote to accompany my Phoenix Rose costume from when I displayed it in a school exhibition. I have also included some retrospective thoughts a little further down.

The dress made of the gorgeous iridescent pinky purple fabric is my something borrowed because the fabric was generously given to me by Stephanie Darby and Melissa Bales after I made most of the costumes for their summer theatre production of The Lion King. Something which I really enjoyed helping with. I have titled this dress Phoenix Rose because of the golden rosy purple color of the fabric. I was inspired by the fabric used to make the dress and its rosy Phoenix feather color so I wanted to add the long fancy sleeve tips to make it feather-like. I also really appreciated how the fabric flowed and moved and made sure the dress complimented the movement and flow of the fabric by adding much drapery to the dress. I accomplished the sleeves by cutting a paper pattern and then pinning the pattern to a white faux leather to give it strength and stability. Then I added wire for shape and then I covered it in the proper fabric for beauty.
